Pearl City readys for Spring Season - Top
Pearl City Rugby Football Club is preparing for the Spring Season. The club has undergone some changes, and will be returning back to it's DIII roots. The Black Bears will be playing friendlies against local area competition, and look the team looks forward to getting back to basics and playing in Iowa. The club is also looking to fill out it's roster, and strongly encourages anyone interested in the sport to come out and give it a shot this spring. Experience in rugby is NOT needed, and their is no ideal body type for playing rugby. "It's a lot like American football" says club President Ben Nietzel. "There are positions for big guys, small guys, fast guys and slow guys." If you have ever considered giving rugby a shot, or just wanted to find out more about this sport, this is a great season to come out and give it a shot.
Black Bears Defeat Wisconsin - Top
On October 4, 2008 the Pearl City RFC's Division I Black Bears trampled the Wisconsin RFC in Madison 93-12. The Bears are having an outstanding Fall Season. According to the Midwest Rugby Territorial News, the Black Bears are leading in the Men's Division I Western League folllowed by Palmer College, Metropolis, and Wisconsin in 2nd, 3rd, and 4threspectively. The Pumas are ranked 3rd in the Iowa Leagues Division III men's teams. The Bears will be back in Muscatine at the MHS pitch for a match against the Chicago Griffons at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 11th. Pumas will play Bremmer County Bucks Rugby on October 11th on their turf in Waverly, Iowa. The match starts at 1:00 PM. The Pumas, Pearl City RFC's Division III team had a Bye this past weekend.
Bears Win, Pumas Defeated - Top
The Division I, Black Bears played at home against the Metropolis RFC hailing from Minneapolis. The evening match started at 7:00 PM at the Muscatine High School pitch. Pearl City Rugby Club's Black Bears racked up a 59 to 8 score against Metropolis in front enthusiastic fans filling the bleachers and sideline. It was a different story earlier in the afternoon when the Division III, Pumas traveled to Cedar Rapids in a 1:00PM match against the Headhunters, losing their match 8 to 17. Next weekend, October 4th, the Black Bears will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to play the Wisconsin Rugby Club at Crossroads Park. The Pumas have a Bye Week. On October 11, the Black Bears will be back home on the MHS synthetic turf at 7:00 PM in Muscatine for a match against Chicago Griffons. Pumas will engage Bremer County Rugby (Waverly, Iowa) on their home pitch at 1:00PM. Pearl City RFC is mindful of the fact that the Muscatine Food pantry needs help replenishing its shelves. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the home matches. The items will be donated to the Muscatine Food Pantry. |
